Research Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics was formed in 2007 through the merger of two institutes as part of the restructuring of the faculties. Since 2021, the Department of Mathematics has formed a joint teaching unit with the new Department of Data Science. The research profile of the Department of Mathematics, on the one hand, upholds the great Erlangen mathematical tradition in representation theory and analysis, and on the other hand, bridges the gap to application areas in the natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, and economics through modeling, stochastics, numerical methods, and optimization.
