Exchange programs for outgoing FAU students

This page is a collection of the most important information for outgoing students. For further questions please email or visit his consultation hour.

Study abroad brings you a lot of professional and personal advantages. These are in particular: cultural openness, language skills, greater professional breadth, ability to adapt to new surroundigs, international contacts.

The European Commission supports stays abroad through the Erasmus+ exchange program. Every student enrolled in Erlangen can apply for a student mobility grant for a study or internship stay. In particular, students without a European passport can also apply (however, it is important that you do not lose your residence permit in Germany during your stay abroad). For a guest stay at a specific university, however, it is necessary for the department concerned to have signed a cooperation agreement with that of the home university. The cooperation agreements are managed by the program coordinators. These agreements regulate a large part of the administrative problems and allow you to organize your stay abroad relatively easily and to have your academic achievements recognized here. There is also a grant (approx. 500 Euros per month in recent years). Please note that a different language level is required depending on the university.

  • The Departments of Mathematics and Data Science have cooperation agreements with the following partner universities:
    Rennes 1 (F)
    Florenz (I)
    Zaragoza (E)
University of Southern Denmark, Odense (DK)
    Santander (E)
    Tampere (Fi)
    Herakleon (Gr)
    Stockholm (S)
    TU Prag (Cz)
    Timisora (Ro)
    Tromsø (N)
    Palermo (I)
    Pavia (I)
    Madrid (E)
    Madrid (E)
    Paris (F)
    Paris (F)
    Neapel (I)
    Erzurum (TR)
    Bari (I)
    Dubrovnik(HR)
    Plzen (CZ)
On this website you can also see how many exchange places are available.
  • In addition to the Erasmus exchange program, there are many university-wide scholarships for other study visits, e.g. at Latin American universities. Please contact the Central Office for International Affairs directly for more information.
  • In order to grant recognition of your academic achievements abroad (to the extent of 20 ECTS if you are on leave of absence), it is advisable to speak to me and the relevant subject lecturer before you leave.
  • Here you will find general information from FAU on the Erasmus+ program.

Application: By e-mail with a short letter of motivation (which should include a list of 3 partner universities according to preference), cv and campo transcript of records until mid-December for a stay in the following academic year. The selection will be made based on the grade point average within the framework of the available places. For further questions please contact the program coordinator.

Important: If you are nominated, it will then be about the crediting of ECTS points acquired abroad. It is particularly important to plan this in advance. This is why you should show me the module descriptions of the courses you are planning to take at the partner university and discuss with me how you then want to incorporate these ECTS points into your studies.  This will then be entered into the Learning Agreement and signed by  the chairperson of your examination board.
