I am a mathematical physicist working at the intersection of general relativity (GR) and quantum field theory (QFT). I am mainly interested in mathematical and conceptual questions about semi-classical gravity, black hole thermodynamics/Hawking radiation and related topics involving QFTs in curved spacetimes. Mathematically, these questions lead to interesting challenges that can only be addressed by a mix of advanced methods from analysis, differential geometry and operator algebras.

Topics of current interest focus on the properties of thermodynamic and related quantities in QFT and their effects in GR, e.g.

  • the definition and properties of the stress-energy-momentum tensor of quantum matter, also for non-perturbatively interacting QFTs,
  • quantum energy inequalities and their applications in GR and QFT, ([KS20]),
  • entanglement and the entanglement entropy in QFT, ([HS18],[HIS18]),
  • solutions to the semi-classical Einstein equations, ([Sa21]).
