Abstract: In this talk I will discuss recent results on the null-controllability of the controlled heat equation on the whole space and other unbounded domains, for example half-spaces, orthants and sectors of certain angles, where the control set satisfies a specific geometric condition, namely $(gamma, a)$-thickness. We will show that such a condition is a necessary and sufficient condition for null-controllability of the controlled heat equation on the whole space and at least a sufficient condition for null-controllability on the heat equations on the other domains treated. As a byproduct of the techniques used, explicit bounds on the control cost in dependence of the geometric parameters of the control set are obtained.
This talk is based on joint works with I. Veselic and A. Seelmann.
